The Basics Of The Canada ETA Application

Before you can travel to Canada you will need to complete a Canada ETA application. The Canada ETA application is a requirement for anyone traveling to Canada and is a national of a visa waiver country. There are 45 countries that are part of the visa waiver program and you need to know if you are a national of one of them. There are a number of steps that you need to take to complete the Canada ETA application.

What You Need To Complete The Application

In order to complete the ETA application, there are certain documents you will need to have. The most important is a valid passport from one of the visa waiver program countries. If you are a permanent resident of the United States and you do not have a valid passport then you can apply for your ETA with a valid US refugee document or a valid permit to re-enter the United States.

You will also need to have a valid email address that you can provide to the ETA application system. The email address is needed to send confirmation of the receipt of the application as well as the approval or denial of the application. You should also have a method of payment on hand as you will be charged $7 CAD for the application which is non-refundable. The accepted payment methods include Visa, American Express, MasterCard, pre-paid credit cards, Visa Debt, Interac and JCB card.

How To Apply

The ETA application is done online through the Canadian immigration website. Once you start the application you cannot save your progress and come back at a later time. This is why it is recommended that you have all of your documentation on hand when you start. Once you have completed the application you will be able to review and submit the document. It is important that you take the time to review the information as once it has been submitted you will not be able to change any of the information.

Once the application has been submitted you will be prompted to pay the application fee. You should note that the fee could result in more than $7 CAD when you take the exchange rate into account. An email confirmation will be sent to the email address you have provided and approvals or denials will generally take 72 hours. However, in most cases, the approval or denial will be completed within a matter of minutes.
